Bunkai Station X

Bunkai Station X is a choreographic walk within, around, with, and among a transport station (tram or metro), a troubled space, a space in flux, a space that, in a way, defends itself.
The Japanese word bunkai means “to analyze, to break down” and refers to the interpretation of a posture within a kata. This piece draws an analogy between a station in the body and a transport station.

Seeking to read, translate, and interpret elements of reality, this walk offers a fragmented reading of the various layers that make up the station. Whether superficial or underground, historical or intimate, these strata interweave in a walk where speech is open and free. Alternating stops and different walking rhythms, the piece concludes at a final viewpoint, opening onto a headphone-based listening experience in front of a dancing landscape.

This situated writing involves an in situ recreation protocol with local dancers, the adaptation of the sound creation, and the production of a series of original postcards documenting the walk’s perspective, which are given to residents and performance participants.
